“The Cross and the Snake” Collection by Federico B. Alliney

“It’s as if Alfa Romeo cars are linked to our inner self and to the essence of the earth. There is the most perfect encounter between aesthetics and mechanics. The mechanical elements do not seem to result from an engineering exercise but have their roots in a work of art which rises above the limits of its body and its invisible aura. This is the starting point of my research: to capture le subtle connection between the object and its soul which makes its shapes vibrate".

“I wanted to transport the onlooker inside my paintings. For this intent I use a pictorial technique which I have developed as movie sceneries designer, painting with light, superimposing layers of light and shadow which compenetrate each other. The result of this treatment is then elaborated with pictorial techniques to make stand out the smallest details of the painting".

“The shapes which have inspired Alfa Romeo projects derive directly from the times of the knights of which they remain the last representatives, I refer to the aristocratic emblem which adorns their noses or the shape of their rims, and to the perforations which recall the rose windows of renaissance churches, and, also, the triangular decorations and the cross-sectional lines which clearly recall the emblems of knights tournaments, and, finally, the Alfa Romeo logo itself with the cross and the snake from which the collections draws its inspiration".

Federico B. Alliney was born in Milano and has a degree for the European Institute of Design in Milano.
Since 1986 he participates to the hyper realistic avant-garde of Italian illustration realizing images for major Italian editors and advertising agencies. In 1987 he wins the competition organized by “Star” amongst Italian illustrators and as a result designs the new image of the “Donnina brodo Star” which since then appears on the packaging of the product.

In the same years he get close to the world of automobiles, of which he is a passionate collector, and realizes illustrations and paintings for Bugatti, Renault, Fiat, Citroen and Honda from his studio which is closed to the Monza racing circuit. At the end of the 80’s he realizes oil paintings for “Nardi Ferrari 1990”. In his studio Federico B. Alliney design landscapes, cars, buildings, characters, design objects and develops images for leading companies, graphic design agencies and editors, amongst which “Longanesi” and “Mondadori”, developing over the years a very personal and meticulous style. His objective is to approach projects not only in the traditional aesthetic way but to develop the dynamic of light to obtain a different emotional impact from every image.
